The 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards nominees were announced last night (April 17) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The awards, which last took place in 2008, are a celebration of some of the continent’s finest talent! Nigeria’s Davido and South Africa’s Uhuru and Mafikizolo all received for nominations and will be competing for Song of the Year, Best Collaboration and Artist of the Year.

B’Haram Link: Apologise Or Face Litigation, Buhari Tells PDP

A former head of state and a chief of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Peoples Democratic Party, to retract its wild accusation linking him with the Boko Haram terrorist acts, tender an unreserved public apology to him or face a legal action.

In a statement personally signed in Kaduna on Thursday Buhari said, “I cannot sit back and allow my image, and that of my political party be smeared by falsehood in the name of politics.”

He said the widely publicised and very serious allegations made against him by the PDP and its spokesman, Olisa Metuh, to the effect that his utterances were responsible for the current state of insecurity and terrorism bedeviling Nigeria, were absolutely without basis.

The former Head of State said, ”To support his claim, Metuh engaged in twisted logic and outright distortion – which he called facts – in which he said that I, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, beckoned on my ‘supporters to go on lynching spree’ should I lose the 2011 presidential election, as a result of which ‘an unprecedented violence broke out claiming the lives of hundreds of innocent people’.

”I take very serious exception to this grave accusation against me by the PDP Publicity Secretary. It is a false allegation aimed at tarnishing my image and reputation in the hope of destroying my political and electoral standings, and that of my party, the APC, in the country.

”Firstly, it is public knowledge that Boko Haram as a terror organisation long preceded the 2011 presidential elections. My utterances or lack of them on the 2011 presidential election could not therefore have created nor sustained the Boko Haram insurgency.

Nobody can Islamise Nigeria— Sultan

The Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, on Sunday said there were no plans to turn Nigeria into an Islamic nation.
Abubakar, who is also the President-General, Jamatu Nasril Islam (JNI), made this known at the Golden Jubilee lecture of the JNI in Kaduna.
“Nobody can Islamise Nigeria, if Allah wanted he would have made everybody Muslims, so also with Christianity. God would have made everybody Christian if He wanted.
He stressed the need for the people to set aside ethno-religious differences and be committed toward peace and development of the nation.

The Sultan said JNI criticism of certain policies of the present government was a wakeup call for government or those in leadership positions “to do what is right’’.
He said that JNI’s action was not aimed at fighting the government or any group or religion.
Abubakar, however, decried the insecurity that had pervaded many parts of the nation, especially the North-East by the Boko Haram insurgents.
He said that the activities of the insurgents should not be seen as an attempt by Muslims to prosecute Christians or turn Nigeria into an Islamic country.
Abubakar, therefore, appealed to Christians and other faithful to join hands with Muslims to tackle the present security challenges and other problems facing the country.
He also urged them to see Islam as a peaceful religion.
Vice President Namadi Sambo, in his goodwill message, said the present administration would continue to support JNI in its programmes.
Sambo reiterated commitment of the Federal Government in tackling insecurity and illiteracy in the country.

Terrorist in Abuja || Over 200 feared dead as explosion rocks Nigerian capital, Abuja

A bomb blast has occurred at the popular Nyanya under bridge bus stop.

The blast happened during the Monday morning rush hour, at about 6:47am.
Correspondent Precious Oletu gave us an on the scene update, Here are the details we have right now:
-Nyanya bus stop is where people come from suburbs of Abuja, like Karo and Madalla, etc and get buses into Abuja to work for the day. Buses start loading from 4am.
-Blast occurred when about 7 to 8 buses were loading, and people were queuing to buy tickets.
-Dead bodies are being carried out by ambulances, security agencies, and even individuals. Body parts are being put into bags.
-Correspondent said he was only seeing dead bodies, no injured.
-No idea where the blast came from, but eyewitness says the blast came from the buses at the garage.

-When are correspondent got to the scene he said he saw people coming and going at will. No one was attempting to cordon off the scene until later.
-There is a bomb detection crew on the scene right now. Also on the scene is NEMA, NSCDC, police, the military, fire service, etc.
-Our correspondent says he saw buses with dead people inside
-Causalities are reportedly in he hundreds, but no number yet from official channels.
-No one/group has claimed responsibility as of this time.

Cold brew goes down easy, but watch out: This is high-octane stuff. For a clear liquid, use coarsely ground coffee. (Finely ground beans make for a cloudier drink.)

INGREDIENTS:

12 ounces coarsely ground fresh coffee beans
Milk (optional)

PREPARATION:
Place ground coffee in a large container. Gradually add 7 cups cold water. Stir gently to be sure all grounds are moistened. Cover with a layer of cheese-cloth. Let stand at room temperature for 15 hours.

Remove cheesecloth and use it to line a fine-mesh sieve set over a large pitcher. Pour coffee through sieve into pitcher (do not stir); rinse jar and set aside. Discard cheesecloth with solids.

Line same sieve with a large coffee filter and set over reserved jar. Strain coffee through sieve into jar. (It may take up to 45 minutes for all of the coffee to drip through; do not stir or coffee may become cloudy.) Cover and chill. Coffee concentrate can be made 2 weeks ahead. Keep chilled.

Giant six-legged robot crab to walk the ocean floor

Monsters of the deep will have a man-made horror to contend with, as the Crabster CR200 is released into the oceans. Weighing over half a ton, the six-legged, crustacean-inspired robot is intended for the most dangerous undersea exploration.

Developed by the Korean Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), the Crabster offers a solution to a longstanding problem. While propeller-driven craft do not work well in fierce tides, and divers are limited to calm, relatively shallow seas, the new machine mimics the design of crabs and lobsters that live in stormy waters but are still able to control their movements.

The Crabster is 2.4m long, 2.4m wide and 1.3m tall -- rising to 1.8m when it stands up. Including payload it weighs around 650 kg, and its six legs contain 30 motors, giving the remote pilot ample control and dexterity. As the Crabster creeps along the ocean floor, it can adapt its posture to different current or pressure conditions, to a depth of around 200 meters. Justice Dije Abdu Aboki of Kano State High Court on Monday March 31, 2014 convicted and sentenced former staff Mainstreet Bank, Hadiza Mustafa to five years imprisonment. The convict who was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC alongside Mahmud Sule on a 10-count charge that borders on forgery and theft of depositor’s fund, was convicted on 9 of the counts. Justice Aboki sentenced her to 12 months imprisonment on count 2 and six months imprisonment on counts 3 to 10. The convict is equally to a pay a fine of N120, 000. The sentences are to run concurrently.

The trial judge further ordered that the convict should pay the sum of N13, 000,000 (thirteen Million Naira) in restitution to the bank.

The first count of conspiracy under which the second accused was charged, was dismissed for lack of evidence. Consequently, the accused was discharged and acquitted.

One of the charges against the convict read, “that you Hadiza Mustapha and Mahmud Salihi being bankers and staff of former Afri Bank (now Mainstreet Bank Plc) sometime between the Months of March and June 2011, in Kano within the judicial division of the High Court of Justice Kano State illegally diverted and dishonestly misappropriated the sum N10m (Ten Million Naira Only) being part of N100m (One Hundred Million Naira Only) meant for fixed deposit belonging to one Alhaji Munnir Adamu which he gave you for safe keeping and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code Law”.
